Baal HaSulam
Rav Yehuda Ashlag (1884-1954), also known as “Baal HaSulam” (Heb. “Master of the Ladder.” named after the “Sulam” [“Ladder”] commentary he wrote to The Book of Zohar, which is the principle Kabbalistic source text), is considered to be the most renowned Kabbalist of our generation. Until his time, the wisdom of Kabbalah was studied in secret. It was passed on from teacher to student, in small groups, waiting for the time when humanity would ripen to be ready for the wisdom of Kabbalah, i.e. when humanity would reach an evolutionary dead end, and start asking about the meaning of life en masse.
That time is now.
Traditionally, Kabbalistic scriptures were written in Hebrew by Kabbalists during states of spiritual attainment who  described phenomena that take place in that reality, and are therefore incomprehensible to the regular person. They have nothing to do with what we perceive in our corporeal reality.
Baal HaSulam’s uniqueness was that he organized and interpreted key Kabbalistic texts in a way that anyone who wants can study and implement them. He made them accessible to every person, regardless of spiritual attainment. You could say that he “lowered” the spiritual ladder into our reality, and by doing so, adapted the wisdom of Kabbalah to our generation.
In his writings, Baal HaSulam explains that humanity needs to ascend in consciousness to a spiritual degree by uniting “as one man with one heart,” above our perceived differences, i.e. to “love your friend as yourself.” But in order to reach that state of mutual interconnection among humanity, we must learn how to do so. The new kind of connection we should aim to establish among each other is that same “receiving device” that will let us perceive the spiritual reality that is currently concealed from us.
In addition to his writings, Baal HaSulam also composed melodies (Heb. Nigunim) to aid his students in connecting more emotionally, with deeper feelings of the spiritual reality that the Kabbalistic texts depict.


Who is a Kabbalist?
“What is the meaning of life?” Every so often, everyone asks this question.
A Kabbalist is a regular person, just like you and me. But there’s one distinction: a Kabbalist cannot find rest from the question about the meaning of life. For the Kabbalist, this question doesn’t just randomly appear one moment and disappear the next. It becomes life’s main concern.
One who delves deeper into the question about the meaning of life eventually comes across the wisdom of Kabbalah.
Why?
It’s because the wisdom of Kabbalah was established specifically to answer this question. It explains that our five bodily senses can perceive only a tiny fraction of reality.
Kabbalists explain that we live in a world of infinite abundance and pleasure, which we cannot feel.
Why don’t we feel the world as being full of pleasure and abundance? It’s because we lack the appropriate senses. For example, we’re surrounded by radio waves, but in order to hear the sound encoded in the waves, we need a radio receiver, which we can tune to hear the sound contained in the waves.
A Kabbalist is a person, who by studying the wisdom of Kabbalah, “tunes” his or her inner qualities to the reality of abundance surrounding us, and by doing so, attains it. In other words, a Kabbalist is a person who discovers the spiritual reality we’re already in, but cannot yet sense.


Kabbalistic Music
Music has always been a central element in the development of human society. With music, emotions can be transferred from one person to another directly, from heart to heart, without even saying a word. It is a kind of special language, or method of communication that rises above the boundaries of common language, time and place. For example: a person from Brazil can be emotionally touched by a composition that was written hundreds of years ago in Germany by Bach.
Also, music can be played among thousands of people, giving them a feeling of unity and closeness that cannot be accomplished in any other way. It is like they are all synchronized to one frequency, experiencing a mutual feeling that takes place in them all as one. We have all been to music festivals and felt the power in that magical moment when thousands of people sing a song together where all voices unite into a single whole.
That is the reason why, also in the wisdom of Kabbalah, which is entirely based on the connection between us, music has such a central and important role.
What makes Kabbalistic music unique is when a Kabbalist composes a melody, he does it through feeling that is revealed inside, while attaining the spiritual reality, inspired by a deep inner feeling due to his connection with the upper force.
When we sing together, or listen to the same melody, we can begin to feel what the Kabbalist was feeling when composing the melody. The music is a kind of bridge that can give anyone a small impression of the spiritual reality, before actually attaining it.


Who am I?
My name is Danny Weissfeld.
I was born in U.S.A. When I was just a few months old, my parents moved back to Israel. I grew up in the city of Kfar Saba. I started playing the guitar at the age of 14.
After completing my three years of Israeli military service, I was facing the question of what I wanted to do with my life, and in the meantime, I started mingling in the Israeli music scene. I played in the bands “Boten Matok BaKirkas,” “Funkenstein” and others.
After two years, I felt like I had to take some time, to get out of Israel and see the world. I decided to go to Los Angeles and try my luck in the international music scene.
In just a few years, I found myself playing guitar in a rap group, opening for my favorite artists like Pharrell Williams and the Roots.
A short time after that I started working as a guitar player for some of the world’s biggest artists: Kelly Clarkson, Clay Aiken, Anastacia, James Blunt and others.
With those artists I had the privilege of going on worldwide tours, playing on TV shows (The Tonight Show, SNL), award shows (MTV Awards, the Grammys...), and sporting events (Super bowl pre-party show, NBA All-Star game, Winter Olympics…).
Seven years after arriving in Los Angeles, even though I was living my dream, I felt like Israel is still my home, and that is where I wanted to settle down and start a family.
Since my return I’ve been playing with some of my favorite and most renowned artists in Israel: Idan Raichel Project, HaDag Nahash, Arkadi Duchin, Rita, David Broza, Avraham Tal, Idan Amedi and others.
While I was living in L.A. (2000-2007), the question “What is the meaning of life?” kept surfacing in my heart.
I started reading a lot of books. All kinds of books from many cultures and authors, until I came across the wisdom of Kabbalah, and discovered that it was exactly what I was looking for.
It didn’t happen instantly. There are a lot of places that teach Kabbalah, but only when I found the Bnei Baruch website, I received the answers for the questions I was asking all my life.
One evening, while reading the website, I came across an article about Kabbalistic music that sparked my curiosity. A new vast and extraordinary world of music was revealed to me, which I have never previously encountered: music carrying great depth and emotional charge, the Kabbalistic melodies of Baal HaSulam.
I delved into the music and started researching it. I found the notes of the melodies and started playing them again and again, every time discovering a new and surprising dimension hidden inside. At some point I felt the need to start recording the melodies, so more people could experience the rare wonder concealed in them.
